Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel and Palestinian Affairs Hady Amr Visit to Amman, Ramallah, Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv, March 13-17, 2022

On March 17, 2022, Deputy Assistant Secretary Hady Amr concluded a trip to Amman, Ramallah, Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv, where he met with Israeli, Jordanian, and Palestinian officials as well as members of Israeli and Palestinian civil society and the business community.  DAS Amr expressed appreciation for support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s aggression, discussed Israeli-Palestinian relations, and emphasized the importance of strengthening the U.S. relationship with Israel, the Palestinian Authority and Palestinian people.  DAS Amr also highlighted the need to improve the quality of life for Palestinians and reiterated the Biden Administration’s philosophy that Israelis and Palestinians alike deserve to live safely and securely and enjoy equal measures of freedom, security, and prosperity.  He also traveled to Amman, where he discussed the importance of Jordan’s support to the Palestinian people and the special role of His Majesty King Abdullah II as custodian of holy places in Jerusalem.  DAS Amr expressed appreciation for Jordan’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s aggression.

DAS Amr emphasized in all his meetings that it is critical for Israelis and Palestinians to refrain from steps that exacerbate tensions and undercut efforts to advance a negotiated two-state solution.
