Six Summer Study of the United States Institutes for Scholars
Study of the United States Institutes for Scholars are intensive six-week post-graduate level academic programs with integrated study tours whose purpose is to provide foreign university faculty and other scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions. The ultimate goal of the Institutes is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad. The Department of State will cover all participant costs, including travel and ground transportation in the United States, housing and subsistence, and book, cultural, mailing and incidental allowances for participants.
Summer 2020 Study of the U.S. Institutes will be held on the following themes:
- American Culture and Values
- Journalism and Media
- Religious Freedom and Pluralism
- U.S. Economics and Business
- U.S. Foreign Policy
- Youth, Workforce Development, and Closing the Skills Gap
For Whom? Mid-career university faculty members, scholars and practitioners interested in advanced studies to deepen understanding of U.S. society, culture, values and institutions. First consideration will be given to mid-career professionals with little or no prior experience in the United States.
When and Where? Study of the United States Institutes for Scholars will take place at various colleges, universities, and institutions throughout the United States over the course of six weeks beginning in or after June 2020. Each Institute includes a four week academic residency component and up to two weeks of integrated study tour.
