U.S. Embassy promoted environmental awareness and combating plastic debris with U.S. expert Dr. Jenna Jambeck, Associate Professor, College of Engineering, University of Georgia. This Earth Day 2018 program was organized in cooperation with The Ruppin Academic Center, and brought together experts and 150 marine science college students. IIP speaker Dr. Jambeck focused on “Plastic Waste Input into the Ocean – can we solve this global program together?” and emphasized the importance of U.S. And Israeli experts and students to work together to combat plastic pollution of the oceans. The program is the first of its kind for the post, and included a variety of activities: a scientific tour to Alexander Stream micro-estuary, scientific session as well as visits to the Running Sea Water Lab and The National Sea Turtle Rescue Center. The program enhance post’s efforts to promote STEAM and Environmental education.
