Location: Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza
Event: Potential security incidents in the Old City of Jerusalem
The month of Ramadan is expected to begin on Thursday, April 23, and end on Saturday, May 23. While large gatherings in the Old City are not expected under current COVID–19 restrictions, the potential for security incidents still exists. Because of the potential for security incidents, U.S. government personnel and their family members living and working in Israel are prohibited from traveling on Fridays during Ramadan to the following Jerusalem Old City areas: Herod’s Gate, Lion’s Gate, Damascus Gate, entrances to the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount, and the Al-Wa’ad (Al-Wad) street corridor.
As security incidents often take place without warning, U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness.
Actions to Take:
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Avoid demonstrations
