Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Jerusalem (May 10, 2021)
Location: Jerusalem
Event: Security Alert
Due to recent violent confrontations and the upcoming celebrations and commemorations, Jerusalem’s Old City has been placed off-limits to embassy personnel now through 8:00 a.m. Sunday, May 16. Embassy personnel in East Jerusalem and City Center have been advised to remain indoors from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. during the same period of time.
Due to increased tensions in Jerusalem, related demonstrations can happen anywhere. Embassy personnel have been advised to avoid large crowds and public/official festivities through Jerusalem Day and Ramadan.
The embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens to remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness, as security incidents often take place without warning. The embassy will continue to review the security situation and will provide additional information as needed.
