Passport Processing Times and Delivery

The time from application to delivery is currently six (6) to eight (8) weeks.  We strongly encourage you to apply well in advance of your travel to allow time for delivery of your documents.

Note:  Processing times for all services are approximate.  Times quoted should be used only as a guide. We recommend you don’t make non-refundable travel plans until you have your new passports.

All passports are returned by courier (and not by mail or by pick up).

  • The cost of the courier service from both the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and the Branch Office in Tel Aviv is 60 NIS for Israel (Israel Post). The delivery fee of NIS 60 should be paid in advance through the Israel Post website.  If renewing in person, you will print the confirmation page (one per family) and include it in the package of documents you submit at the interview.  If you are renewing by mail or drop box, you will print the confirmation page (one per family) and include it with the documents you submit.  When the passport is ready for delivery, Israel Post will contact you by SMS to arrange delivery.
  • The cost of the courier service from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem is 50 NIS for the West Bank and Gaza (Aramex). When the passport is ready for delivery, the courier will contact you for payment and delivery.  Courier delivery fees are paid directly to the courier company.  The courier will either deliver your documents directly to you or call you for pickup at one of its distribution centers.

Pickup (ONLY for limited-validity, emergency passports):  For applications that are complete and straightforward, emergency passports are usually available for pickup the day after they are approved.  Pickup times are between 2:00pm–2:30pm at U.S. Embassy Jerusalem and 2:15-2:45pm at Branch Office Tel Aviv
