Visa applications for children under 14

Visa applications for children under 14 should also include:

  • Passport
  • DS-160 confirmation page
  • One color photograph taken within the last six months against a white background, and 5cm x 5cm in size. Wearing eyeglasses is not allowed in visa photos; see photo requirements here.

Documentation of parents’ visa status:

  • If both parents are not U.S. citizens:
    • Copies of the biographic pages of both parents’ passports.
    • Copies of the U.S. visas for both parents.
    • If neither parent holds a U.S. visa or a foreign passport that enables visa-free travel to the United States, a copy of the U.S. visa of the person traveling with the child and a letter of consent, stating that the parents are aware of the child’s travel to the United States with that person.
  • If one parent is a U.S. citizen and the other parent is a foreign citizen:
    • Copies of the biographic pages of both parents’ passports and a copy of the foreign parent’s U.S. visa.
    • One of the following:
      • USCIS naturalization (N-600K) appointment notice
      • Statement from the U.S. citizen parent, including place of birth, explaining how they obtained U.S. citizenship and explanation of any periods of time the U.S. citizen parent has spent in the United States.
  • If both parents are U.S. citizens:
    • Copies of the biographic pages of both parents’ passports.
    • One of the following:
      • USCIS naturalization appointment notice (N-600K)
      • Statements from both parents, including place of birth, explaining how they obtained U.S. citizenship and explanation of any period in which either parent has resided in the United States.

Please note: Under U.S. law, U.S. citizen children may not receive a visa.
